On-going project: Social capital and migration – evidence from a post-conflict environment

“Social capital and migration – evidence from a post-conflict environment“ is CISAR’s ongoing research project supported by the Regional Research Promotion Programme in the Western Balkans (RRPP), which is run by the University of Fribourg upon a mandate of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, SDC, Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

The main aim of this project is to investigate determinants of social capital in a post-conflict environment (including Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia) for different migrant groups and entrepreneurs. By examining post-conflict environment of the South-East European region, we are looking at the factors that affect social-capital in the areas affected by the recent wars/conflicts; hence, where social capital is very likely to be damaged.

At the same time, these are areas where social capital is likely to have had an important role in the (re)construction of communities, and indirectly, in supporting better economic performance of individuals and businesses.
